I will start by asking all of you, Do you
know someone who has Cancer or has gone
to a better place from Cancer? I do.
Angelo
Lopiano Sr., My Dad, and
an unbelievable man to
all, passed on December
7th, 2003. He fought his cancer with dignity
and through the whole entire process, knowing
that he was diagnosed with
a fatal tumor; Angelo never
once gave up or quit the fight to beat the horrible
enemy.
I wish to this day that I could have my
Dad back and even though this is not possible,
there is no reason why I can’t help you not to go through what
our family did for a year.

We know that there are many others out there who have experienced similar stories. We would like to share your stories as I have shared mine. If you have a story to share, please email us at angelo@saucydreams.com.

My mom was on the liver transplant waiting list for about five years. She was diagnosed with Hepatitis C around 1986. Because it was a new virus, doctors didn't know much about it and therefor, couldn't give her any treatment or advice on how to tame the disease. Hep C attacks your liver, and considering that alcohol also attacks your liver, the combination of the two could, overtime, be fatal.
Now there is a cure for Hepatitis C call Interferon. The doctors tried putting my mom on the medication, but because my mom's liver had been abused throughout her life, it didn't work. They took her off the medication and told her that her only chance was to have a transplant.
During the time when my mom was on the list, I wasn't too close with my parents, so I don't know all of the details, but when my mom finally received the new liver in November '07, I was there for her. I took care of her after she got out of the hospital, giving her anti rejection medications and taking her vitals three times a day.
A year later, my mom is doing great! She's up and about every day when before, she would only mope around the house. She's looks great and we have never been closer.
About two weeks ago, we both went to the 1000 transplant celebration at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. The people there that had received liver transplants were from the past ten years. One thousand lives that were saved out of how many, I can't tell you. All I know is that I'm very fortunate to have my mom for many more wonderful years to come.
I'm glad to have shared my story with you. Please spread the word: Donate Life. Become an organ donor.
Thank you for listening!
